Next to Kin was originally a true family band with Gary Gerber (dad), Jeff Gerber (son), Danielle Gerber (daughter,) and Greg Shanks (son-in-law) forming the nucleus of the band. Not long after forming they picked up Heath McLaughlin to round out the original members. Some variation of the band plays every week at their own restaurant, Gerb's Wurst Bar. When they are not playing at Gerb's you can find them playing all over the Texas panhandle at several different venues. They have headlined at the Tri-State Fair, opened for bands such as: Little Texas, Ricochet, Dirty River Boys and have played special events for various towns across the top of Texas over the last 4 years.
